Martin Moon's Story

Martin worked his way through the psychic debunking circuit. Making his money off some investments in small time companies. On one of his many lecture tours, he had been strolling through the city when he noticed he was being pursued by a mysterious figure. In an effort to lose his tail, he hide in a small bookstore. It wasn't long before he discovered, and subsequently purchased, a large number of books on occult subjects. Through reviewing the books he had taken it upon himself to hunt down a great evil force.

Though he will not speak of the specifics of the incident, he was not able to defeat the evil and suffered a great loss. He lost himself in a bottle for ages. Drinking to forget what he couldn't do. For years he stumbled through his life trying to forget. Something made him keep everything he had found. He couldn't help feeling it was all important, even if he was not the one that needed the information. It would be useful to someone capable of taking on the darkness. He left monster hunting and returned to debunking psychics.

At the world's largest psychic convention, he met a young man named Jack Wesson who was there searching for answers. The two started talking and it wasn't long before Martin started drawing parallels between the life Jack was telling him about and the prophesied Chosen one that would bring light to the darkness. The two quickly teamed up and set out to find a way to seal the darkness out of the world.

Jack Wesson's Story

Jack's young life was a typical happy childhood. Shortly after his 16th birthday he started having nightmares. He saw the world in flames. He saw those lighting the fires weeping as they heard the screams of the innocent dying. These nightmares scared his parents and they were quick to get him to a therapist in hopes of solving the problem. His parents and therapist had him on heavy anti-psychotic drugs that didn't seem to do any good. He became withdrawn from his family and friends. Spending all his time on the internet searching for his own answers. Most of it hidden deep within dark web networks.

At the age of 17, his parents had him committed to a mental institution. Around this time his visions started to change, he started to see a shining light that put the fires out. He felt hope and he felt that he needed to find that light. He knew he'd never be able to convince his parents the visions were not a bad thing, so he began to lie about them. Shortly after he turned 18 he was released from the mental institution. He went home, packed his bags, and left. He has not been back to see his parents since and resents them for putting him through all that they had without ever once listening to him.

He lived in abandoned factories and houses. Refusing to enter his personal information into anything that might leave a trace. During one of his many searches for a safe place to sleep, he found a large tree unexpectedly growing in the basement of a long abandoned warehouse. Tangled amount the roots was a blade on the end of a long chain. The entire thing was made of obsidian and covered in the words of some ancient and forgotten language. When he held the weapon, the hope he'd felt in his dreams seemed to come back to his mind.

That night his visions came to him and the light was extinguishing the fires of darkness. When he woke in the morning, he heard footsteps retreating from him and a door slamming. Among his belongs, someone had placed a flyer for the world's largest psychic convention. Jack felt he may be able to find answers there.

At the convention he met Martin Moon, an older scholar who had a vast knowledge of the occult things. After talking with Martin about his visions, Jack was convinced that teaming up with Martin was his only hope of getting answers.
