Spirit of 77

Spirit of 77

Description:  The best parts of a bad decade. Kung Fu fighting rockers. Good ol' boys and their fast cars. Every campy over the top movie from the 1970s is rolled up into one.

  • Characters
    • Tom S Fisherman: Gonzo Journalist who doesn't take any guff off any swine. Known on the streets as One Bad Mother but that has yet to be proven. He's out for adventure and getting the biggest scoop there is, was, or could be. "Gonna blow the lid off this whole operation." And if his publisher has any say, hopefully before TSF bleeds their expense account dry. He's always helped out by his faithful assistant whom he has never met and only spoken to over the phone.
      • After the first episode, picked up a sasquatch as an animal companion, passing her off as an Eastern European woman named Helga Sasquatchorski.
      • Chosen catch phrase: "If you don't know me you can blow me."
        • because he is a man of the people and a prominent gonzo journalist he expects the people that would like him already know him.
    • Killian "Baphomet" Burque: A goth glam Rocker who happens to have be an alien Visitor from another planet. Trapped on Earth with a blurry past. He is out to investigate his past and gain peace of mind form the closure. Armed with a modified sitar is also out to find the "new sound" to bring back his career. Where ever that might be. In the meantime, this Earth place has got great drugs to pass the time with.
      • After an first episode, he taught himself how to read more of people's minds when giving them the third degree.
      • Chosen catch phrase: "Gonna rock out with my cock out."
        • because as an alien he does not have human male reproductive organs and feels the need to over compensate his race's gender fluidity with overly aggressive male stereotypical gender roles. No one is convinced by his efforts to "man-up".
        • his body has a habit of changing genders when surrounded by a specific gendered population.
GM Notes:
  • I wasn't alive in 77. I have no idea what it was like to be alive in the 70s. I can wing it though. I have had to internet references to get an idea of the monetary value of things. I used this site http://www.classic70s.com/1970s-prices.html
  • I'm trying to make this game more episodic like a TV show. Hopefully each little adventure will be self contained. 70s TV shows LOVED to bring on celebrity guest stars for an episode. My hope with this is that I can get some of the other people I know that want to play to join in as "guest stars" without it fucking up the whole thing for the regulars.
  • Season 2 will be exploring the city and the character's backgrounds. This part of it will attempt to be building a city the same way one builds an apocalypse in Apocalypse World. I'm hoping it will help the players to generate their own adventures and motivations for their characters. At least to the extent that they will share their goals and desires with me more openly.
  • Season 2 died. There was "too much choice" and the characters weren't holding up long term. So without a proper railroad to hop on it fell apart.

Episodes:

Season 2 Episode 4: Let's see what sorts of high jinks we can get up to.

This is how they died, because that's what I decided:
