Apocalypse World 2nd Edition: MEAT - Something Rotten in the city of 1-DR

MEAT - Something Rotten in the city of 1-DR

Starring
  • David as Li'l Walt the King of 1-DR: that creep Gritch Sundown is distracting people from me. I'm gonna have to shake things up for the next Big Show. I should check on Mickey.
  • Gina as Chief McFigglesworth: that asshole Li'l Walt can't just go kicking my friends and employees out without at least giving me a say in it. I'm gonna hit him where it hurts and make the wound fester.
  • Mike K as Gritch Sundown: they may have kicked me out of 1-DR, but my Uncle Bill over near 2-DR is probably locking for something to do. I think I'll raise an army to wipe that smug look off Li'l Walt's face.
GM NOTE: We redid the end of last session at the start of this session to restablish how Gritch was kicked out, as most people's memories of the end of the session were inhibited by a great deal of apple pie moonshine. No regrets.

Li'l Walt wasted no time at the end of the Big Show. He ordered his crew to tar and feather Gritch, before running him out of town strapped to a rail. A small crowd was lining the streets to watch Gritch be taken out. Li't Walt couldn't tell if they were cheering for Gritch or his crew that were getting rid of that freak. Either way he didn't like so much attention being paid to anyone who wasn't in charge.

Li'l Walt didn't stick around to watch the entire procession. Letting Vanna Black take care of the expulsion while he checked on his experiments in the sub-basement.

Gritch noticed Chief McFigglesworth. Maybe it was the intimacy they shared or Gritch's adrenaline, but Chief heard Gritch inside her head: "Wait for my signal." She could only assume Gritch was already planning his revenge. She'd have to be ready to strike from the inside.

Gritch was dropped over the wall of 1-DR. The guards along the walls threw bottles and rocks until Gritch scrabbled toward some rubble for cover. He wanted back into the city if only to see the look on Li'l Walt's Face when he crashed through the gates of 1-DR and announced Gritch was back. He'd have to go find his Uncle Bill though.
Uncle Bill was the leader of a cult based in the rubble around the settlement of 2-DR. It was a 15 mile walk through sand storms, raiders, and infected mutants. Gritch would need to come up with a plan to survive the trip.

Inside of 1-DR, Chief was meeting with Visage, so much had changed since she'd originally planned to butcher him for a special. Instead she offered to hire him if he worked his way up through the ranks of her establishment first. Chief's charm was too much for Visage and he agreed readily.

His first task was to take dinner to Li'l Walt and his crew. If Visage happened to overhear any of the plans Li'l Walt was making, it would certainly look good for his chances at promotion. Visage could not have been more eager to please Chief and set off right away carrying the sack of cooked loser-steaks.

Meanwhile, Li'l Walt was making plans for his changes to The Big Show. He would need some armor for he monstrous Mickey. Maybe his brother Big Roy would have some suitable scrap that could be forged into some protective gear.

He was also gonna need a lot more meat to feed Mickey. He was a growing boy and he needed the protein to grow strong. Li'l Walt called Vanna down to Chief's Butchery to get as much meat as she had in stock.

"Tell her it's for the good of 1-DR, or in other words, bring it back but I'm not paying for it. Understood?" Li'l Walt said to Vanna as a smile crept across her face, "Of course it is, that's why you're the greatest cohost the end of the world ever saw. Take some of the boys with you too to make sure it goes nice and smooth."

At Chief's Butchery, she was wasting no time and immediately headed for her secret access to the tunnels from the old times that ran under 1-DR. The access point was hidden in the back room of the speakeasy. If she could get in there and get out to Gritch in time she might be able to help him better with whatever he was planning. On her way there though, Mittens her bouncer stopped her.

"Ba is back Chief. He's getting loud and sayin he knows how all our booze and drugs are made from back when he used to work here. He's had a few to drink and he's offering to sell the secrets to anybody that will buy him another round."

"Any buyers?" Chief asked casually.

"A few perked up, but I cracked my knuckles and shook my head and they seemed to get the message. Ba hasn't shut up though. Nobody's been buyin while he's at the bar."

"Tell Toyota we're gonna need one of his tongue suppressants."

Mittens nodded and headed off behind the bar to confer with Toyota secretly. Toyota smiled, the necklace of teeth he wore clattered around his neck as he turned the burner on his stove and placed a cleaver in the flame.

Chief walked up to Ba, who didn't seem to notice her until she was right in his face, "I'm getting complaints about you again Ba. You been talkin an awful lot about things that could hurt my business."

"Yeah so what?"

Chief hated when people challenged her before she could threaten them. She nodded at Mittens, who grabbed Ba's arm and twisted it behind him, pressing his face into the bar.

"So, we're gonna see that you don't do that anymore," Chief said as she strolled behind the bar, "We don't want to have to ban you from coming here Ba. I mean that just wouldn't be friendly. I've got something else in mind though. You're on special today Ba."

After saying this, Mittens put one hand on the top of Ba's head and pulled back, forcing his mouth open. Toyota grabbed onto Ba's tongue with a set of blacksmith's tongs and pulled it out of his mouth as much as it would go without removing it. Chief grabbed the glowing hot cleaver and chopped through Ba's tongue.

"Tongue sandwich, today only. As fresh as you can get it," Chief held the tongue close to her ear, "Why this is so fresh, I'd swear I can still hear it screaming."

Before she could even finish dealing with Ba, there was the sound of shattering glass coming from the butcher's shop up from. Chief, Mittens, and Toyota rushed to see what caused the noise. Three of Li'l Walt's gang lead by Vanna Black had smashed the glass in the display case and were loading all of Chief's prime loser-meat into a wheelbarrow.

Chief didn't hesitate for a moment. Her and her team attacked the thieves. Managing to kill off two of the three. Vanna Black just hung back behind the fray until there was a break in the fighting. She smiled, then sprayed Toyota with the contents of her supersoaker and tossed a match at him.

The liquid caught fire immediately catching Toyota's clothing on fire. Chief and Mittens turned their attention to help put out the flames and Vanna used the opportunity to grab the wheelbarrow of meat and rush back to Li'l Walt.

Shortly after they had bandaged Toyota's burns, Visage returned to the speakeasy to tell Chief that Li'l Walt was making plans to change The Big Show. There was going to be a champion of the fighting pits. Some kind of monster that Li'l Walt made in his basement.

On the outskirts of 1-DR, Gritch was opening his mind to the psychic maelstrom. Allowing the visions to wash over him. He saw a light colored rectangle and heard the sound of a motor, then tires screech, then there was a shatter pattern on the rectangle. A new source of light appeared next to the rectangle and then he was standing over the body of a large beast watching as a burning scar appeared in the shape of Li'l Walt's third crown.

The sound of a real engine brought him back to reality. Gritch was lucky enough to spot a 1-DR scavenging truck headed down the road to 2-DR.

Gritch stumbled when he was jumping on board the truck. He dropped his implant injector and had to hide under the tarp in the back of the truck to not be seen. Unfortunately he couldn't see either and would just have to hop out when he thought they were almost there.

The ride was slow going and the closer they got to 2-DR the more it seemed like Uncle Bill was talking to Gritch inside his head. Gritch jumped out of the truck just beyond the lights of 2-DR and headed into the hilly outskirts. Night was coming and there was only darkness beyond the city.

Gritch was starting to wonder if his Uncle Bill was even still in the hills anymore. It had been 7 years since he'd seen him. Uncle Bill had taught Gritch how to use his powers and had given him the gear he used to focus his powers.

Just as Gritch was about to give up for the night and settle in, a bright light shone from a nearby cave. When he peaked into the entrance there was a sudden explosion of euphorically painful colors and Gritch saw Uncle Bill.
"So glad you could come visit again Gritch. You here just to say hi or are you looking for some help?"
