Dungeon World Campaign: Scurvy - Adventure 4

Adventure 4: Okay now what?
Player Characters:
Mike as Z - the swashbuckling scoundrel
Stephen as Geralt Darkstar - the pirate alchemist

The night the party found the ship, they slept in it's beds. Geralt was nearly dead after their battle with the hydrodemon . When he slept a woman came to him in a fever dream. She jarred his sea-soaked memory about his life before he had washed up on the shores of Makak Island...

GM Note: But Our Hero The GM, I thought you had gone over how the heroes had arrived at the Island as young laborers? Well voice in my head that is also me, that's a very good question, and you're right. That is what the players had decided, but players change their mind and I'm not a fascist about arbitrary pre-first adventure details.

The woman told him her name was Valencia Marigold. She had been his wife. They were bound by blood, as the marriage ritual of Geralt's people involves opening a wound in the palms of the couple and binding the hands together. She had been kidnapped by a cult that had thrown Geralt overboard the day they took her. She gave him a name to follow:

Upon waking up, Geralt found himself propped up in a chair with an apple on his head to see that Z was teaching his son to throw knives. His son was now named Coil, because Z had decided to bring him along on the adventure and disguise him as any good father would. Geralt shared his vision with Z, who quickly decided following the vision's message would lead to adventure and he was on board for whatever it may be.

The party decided the best thing to do would be to return to Smakka-Bottom and visit their old friend Vesemir at the Drooping Anchor Inn and Tavern. Luckily Geralt's knowledge of the occult and mysticism allowed him to decipher the etchings in the glass bottle that had contained the magical ship. He learned that with certain hand motions along the surface they were able to return the ship to the bottle to travel on land without fear of losing the crewless ship.

Upon arriving at the Drooping Anchor, the group immediately tried to lean on Vesemir for information. As the last time he'd tried to help them, he had been put in the dungeon questioned by the guards for delivering a scandalous love letter to the governor's wife imploring her to help out some scoundrel, Vesemir was in no mood for helping them out.

Z used his devilish charm, and ample supply of halfling-pipeleaf, to sort of convince Vesemir to help. They learned that Scurvy Mervin, a deckhand who had survived the same shipwreck as Geralt was returning to port soon. Vesemir would tell the party when, but only if they agreed to recover the money that Scurvy Mervin owed him. The party agreed and learned he was due in the next morning.
They immediately sprung into action, having Coil (formerly known as Bert) wait for them at the inn and headed down to the port at night to determine the best vantage point from which to spy Scurvy Mervin.

Upon his arrival they began following him through the busy port, before confronting him in an alleyway. Geralt roughed him up while Z stood guard. During their struggle Mervin broke free from Geralt's grasp and began to run, but Z was able to use his amazing acrobatic skills to vault off a disoriented Geralt, swing from a conveniently placed rope, dash off the wall, and land on top of the escaping Mervin. They managed to subdue him shortly there after.

He confessed was hired to come find the same buried treasure the party had recently found. Mervin had no idea they had already recovered it and the party kept that a secret. Mervin did not know the name of his employer. He only got a letter and a sack of gold and a jelly-breather to get the treasure. The party learned he had almost twice as much gold on him as was owed to Vesemir. Far be it from the party to pass up an opportunity to burn bridges for the sake of the quick gain, they decided to leave Coil, not pay back Vesemir, and head off to the sea to find who had hired Scurvy Mervin and what happened to Valencia Marigold.

The two headed out of town. Choosing the path that lead past the Governor's mansion to get to a place where they could launch their ship without getting noticed. Shortly upon setting out of town, they noticed a group of guards that were protecting someone approaching. Geralt said "I ain't got time for no damned guards" and unloaded his blunderbuss at them.

During the ensuing scuffle, Geralt managed to kill one of the guards before being thrown from the path down a hill toward the jungle. Z managed to kill another before realizing he was no match for a 5 on 1 battle. He used his daring acrobatics to get over the guards and take the person they were protecting hostage.

Low and behold, it's none other than Amanda, the Governor's wife, Z's ex-lover, and the mother of his twice abandoned child. "Z you scurvy bato. I'll see you strung up by your neck for this."

Will Z manage to get out of this? Will Geralt come back to help his ally or will he head off to find Valencia alone?
