Dungeon World Campaign: Scurvy - Adventure 5

Adventure 5: Did that just happen?
Player Characters:
Mike as Z - the swashbuckling scoundrel
Stephen as Geralt Darkstar - the pirate alchemist

Z was surrounded by guards, with his ex-lover as a hostage. Geralt was at the bottom of a steep hill at the edge of the jungle. Geralt decides now would be a good time to meditate on his magical tattoo, to gain temporary invisibility before heading up the hill. He managed to lumber his way up the hill, dropping his blunderbuss in the process. In an attempt to help Z, Geralt tried to back-stab one of the guards, but missed the guard entirely and face planted (while still invisible) into the center of the guards. Yet in the noise of and cloud of dust being kicked up Z's razor sharp senses over-heard the distinct "oof" of Geralt having the wind knocked out of him.

Geralt attempted to crawl behind Z and his hostage, losing a boot in the process, exposing a non-invisible sock covered foot. Before the guards noticed, Z managed to time their escape perfectly with the morning wagon caravan lumber delivery to the shipyard. The group managed to put the caravan between them and the guards. They quickly decided to ditch their hostage and rush for the shore. Escaping at island on their boat at sunset and heading for the hidden pirate city somewhere within the Batay Island, though few know the secret route through the canyon entrance that leads to the safety of the inner harbor.

In an attempt to avoid the commonly traveled ship lanes, the group headed for the mysterious Shattered Continent, a place that Z had heard many bardic tales about during his travels. It was once the epicenter of technology during the Magic Wars of centuries ago. During the final battle, that saw the destruction of both kingdoms, something smashed the continent into an impact crater cracked into thousand islands. Little is known about the inner islands and few survive their attempts to explore the outer islands.

"Fuck it, there is probably some awesome shit we can find there. Let's check it out" the group collectively said.

Upon arrival Geralt was unable to shrink the boat, so they left it as they climbed the outer cliffs. At the top they found the smashed remains of some piece of the once great city that resided on the island. Overgrown walled gardens and the crumbling remains of huge towers lay among the houses in various states of collapse. The streets had numerous corpses laying about. Geralt not being the type of person to pass up the chance to grope a dead body for loot, started groping the very first body he found.

Low and behold the dead bodies in a city that was destroyed centuries ago were actually undead Draugr. The party immediately panics. Geralt tries to send a wave of shadow at the approaching horde of undead, but succeeded only in collapsing buildings to block their easiest escape route. Not letting his first poorly executed action deter his steadfast resolve to use the full extent of his abilities, Geralt decides it is a perfect chance to use his familiar, a Chinchilla named Chili, to aid them. He locked eyes with the Chinchilla and took over it's mind while his body lay in a trance. Chili then ran past the approaching undead and found out that there were in fact other ways to get out on the other side of the undead horde he had disturbed.

Z, being only part scoundrel, jumped into action to defend the vulnerable Geralt while he was being a chinchilla in a nearby alleyway. Z manged to deflect their attacks on Geralt to himself, taking numerous blows from the draugr. He managed to dispatch 3 or 4 before Geralt snapped out of his trance just in time to see the draugr deliver a death-blow to Z.

Geralt filled with a foolish blood-rage began relentlessly slashing at the draugr. Although nearly dying himselve, he managed to kill the last of them before they were able to take his life as well. Without time to mourn Geralt, sprung into action and grabbed the body of Z and rushed him back to the ship. Geralt had done some research into some very dangerous blood magic rituals. He aims to resurrect Z.

Will Geralt be successful in correcting a friends death that is on his and Chili's hands? Will Z ever breath the sweet air of life again? Or will Z remain in the drug den/bar/brothel heavenly afterlife he dreamed up for himself in when he let out his last breath?
